Fewer Unaccompanied Minors End Up in AZ

(Aubree Abril, Cronkite News Service) More than 5,000 unaccompanied immigrant children were sent to Arizona for processing by Customs and Border Protection this summer, but fewer than 200 of them ended up staying in the state. |

That's less than 1 percent of the 30,340 Central American children processed this year by federal officials and placed with sponsors  in the U.S. while awaiting a deportation hearing.

Arizona's 186 placements is 26th among states, a rate experts attribute to the relatively small Central American population in the state.
