It has been reported that Kobe Bryant's widow, Vanessa Bryant, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Island Express, the helicopter company that owned the helicopter that Kobe, Gianna, and seven others were riding in when it crashed and killed all of the passengers on board. The lawsuit states that the helicopter was not safe and should have never been approved to fly in those conditions. It also states that the pilot Ara Zobayan, who also died in the crash, had failed to monitor and asses the weather conditions and abort the flight when realizing the severity of the weather restrictions. It also states that the pilot had been disciplined in 2015 for violating visual flight rule minimums.
Although the lawsuit does not list the amount of damages sought, it does ask for pre-impact terror for any emotional distress Kobe and Gigi may have suffered before the crash. TMZ claims the suit also "seeks damages for loss of love, affection, care, society, service, comfort, support, right to support, companionship, solace or moral support and expectations of future support and counseling. The suit also seeks money for loss of financial support and for burial and funeral expenses."
Island Express Helicopters has stated, "This was a tragic accident. We will have no comment on the pending lawsuit."
