The online retailer, Shein, has recently gone under fire when customers discovered that they were selling a swastika necklace on their website. Shein ended up pulling the product off of its website as a result of the immediate backlash.
Shein did post a statement and apology regarding the situation and clarified that the necklace was actually a Buddhist swastika. The word “swastika” comes from the Sanskrit for “good fortune” or “well-being.”, according to a Buddhist Monk. However, regardless of the original meaning of the swastika and the minor differences between the Buddhist swastika and Hitlers swastika, this is a universal symbol for hate.
