Prom Dress Made Entirely of Duct Tape Wins Teen $10k Scholarship

!7-year-old Larissa Leon not only saved herself some money by making her own prom dress, but she just earned herself a $10,000 scholarship!

The Folklorico-inspired dress took Leon 163 hours to make, using 47 rolls of duct tape to create the 20 pound dress to honor her Mexican Culture.

"I knew that I wanted to do something really big, something very colorful, not only a dress I wanted it to like represent me and be a part of me because I didn't just want to do a regular old prom dress. I wanted it to be a part of me. So, with that, I took a lot of inspiration from my Mexican culture with folkloric dance and those types of dresses."

Her creation crowned her this year's winner of the Duck Brand's 21st annual Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest. And although she has proven she can be a fashion designer, her dream is to become a dermatologist.
