Jameela Jamil took to social media on Wednesday (February 12) to deny accusations she suffers from Munchausen Syndrome. According to WebMD, Munchausen Syndrome is a factitious disorder in which a person "repeatedly and deliberately acts as if he or she has a physical or mental illness when he or she is not really sick."
The theory cites alleged discrepancies in Jamil's past interviews and social media posts about injuries sustained in two separate car accidents, a bad fall, and suffering from the invisible illness Ehler's-Danlos syndrome. Jamil has also spoken about a cancer scare in 2016, overcoming an eating disorder after working in the modeling industry and struggling with her mental health.
In a series of tweets, Jamil denied the accusations and took care to address each of them. "First Iâm lying about my sexuality, now Iâm now being accused of Munchausen?" Jamil tweeted. "By an unhinged idiot who didnât even realize in all her 'research' that my car accident injury stories are 'different' because they were about TWO SEPARATE CAR ACCIDENTS 13 years apart? You can keep it."
Jamil's boyfriend, James Blake, also joined the online discourse to defend her. âItâs pretty disgusting to watch the woman I love just be dog piled on every day for such ridiculous things,â the Grammy-nominated singer wrote. âShe hasnât sold dangerous products to kids. She hasnât abused anyone. She hasnât funded anything dangerous or brought any deliberate harm to any marginalized group. Sheâs just done her best as an ever learning human, as most of us are, to help other people with her privilege. She does this because she had such a difficult life. Because she doesnât want others to feel alone, gaslit or ashamed the way she has.â
âI am there for her swollen joints, her dislocations, her severe allergic reactions, her constant high fevers,â Blake continued. âI was there for her concussion, her 3 months of seizures, when the doctor gave her the cancer diagnosis, and for all her operations and their complications due to EDS ⊠I actually live with her. Her being attractive, tall and successful doesnât mean she hasnât been sick.â
The âRetrogradeâ singer concluded, âWhat are any of you even doing? And why are so many of you enjoying this? Itâs sick to watch and I donât ever see men treated like this, the way we tear women limb from limb.â
Jamil thanked Blake for his support, as well, writing âyouâre my best friend and my biggest love.â When she was then asked by a fan why she felt like she had to defend herself from trolls who didn't believe her, Jamil replied "Itâs because of my skin colour and my gender.â
