Just before the turn of the century, Nicole Kidman starred alongside then-husband Tom Cruise in Stanley Kubrick film, Eyes Wide Shut.

Kidman recently sat down with the Los Angeles Times, revealing behind-the-scenes information about the 1999 thriller, including what inspired the plot, and how she and the Top Gun: Maverick Star's romance evolved throughout the film.

The former pair, who share children Isabella, 31, and Connor, 29, were married for a decade from 1991 to 2001 (per E!News), and played husband and wife in the film. They both enjoyed working with Kubrick despite having different relationships with the storied director.

"There’s something about being a woman in that equation, too. And Stanley liked women. He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character."

Kidman continued:

"We loved working with him. We shot that for two years. We had two kids and were living in a trailer on the lot primarily, making spaghetti because Stanley liked to eat with us sometimes. We were working with the greatest filmmaker and learning about our lives and enjoying our lives on set."

The legendary actress candidly unveiled that the film, highlighting "themes of power and infidelity," was loosely inspired by her relationship with Cruise. In an interview with the New York Times in 2020, the Practical Magic alum revealed that she and Cruise were happily married during the entirety of the project.

"We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We'd rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning. I don't know what else to say. Maybe I don't have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I'm not willing to."

The former couple divorced two years after the movie was released.

Kidman has been happily married to country music star Keith Urban, with whom she shares children Sunday, 15, and Faith, 13, since 2006.
