Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the Children's Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala on Saturday (October 5), while Prince Harry remained in the African Kingdom of Lesotho.
According to People, the Duchess of Sussex arrived at the gala in a stunning red gown and had only wonderful things to say about Children's Hospital L.A.'s mission, staff, and friends who've been patients.
"Oh my goodness, the work they do at Children's Hospital L.A. is otherworldly, and I think from my standpoint as a mother, no one wants to be in a position where you need to go to a place like this, but if you have to, the best place in the world you could go would be Children's Hospital L.A."
She continued:
"The staff is incredible, and the amount of work they do for families that really could not afford this level of care is something that I think should never be overlooked. So I'm just grateful for everything they do [and] happy to be here to support."
The duchess took time to speak to doctors and nurses present at the event as well as families whose kids are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Prince Harry was unable to attend the gala aside his bride as he is currently traveling around southern Africa with his charity, Sentebale, "to discuss the HIV/AIDS crisis," per People.
A source recently told the outlet that the pair have "hit their stride as individuals โ not just as a couple" as their travels shift, aligning them on an evolving "twin-track," with the prince doing charity work in Africa and the duchess fronting appearances in the U.S. and remaining with their children Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lillibet, 3, in Montecito, California.
