Jessica Simpson is sharing a vulnerable take with fans as she reflects on the early days of her career.
During a recent concert in Connecticut, the "With You" singer, 45, opened up about not feeling "good enough" in her music career when she was younger, per Page Six. Simpson hit the scene when she was 19 with her debut single "I Wanna Love You Forever" from 1999's Sweet Kisses.
"My whole music career, you know I had a job, and it was to be a pop star and I tried," she said to the crowd. She then turned her own experience into a lesson for all, noting that many others feel a similar way in whatever path they walk down. "But I will say when you're younger you just never feel good enough and it's OK to not feel good enough."
Simpson is seemingly feeling much more secure in her artistry these days as she made her return to music this year, releasing her first new music in 15 years with two new EPs, Nashville Canyon Pt. 1 and Nashville Canyon Pt. 2, which she recorded in the Tennessee capital, People reports. In another candid moment, Simpson explained to the Connecticut crowd why she loves Nashville and how it "brought me home, to myself."
"It brought me inside of my heart in a really hard time of my life," she said. "I just kind of had to surrender myself to that institution, to the light that was in front of me. I just focused on that."
One difficult situation Simpson experienced this year was the end of her relationship to estranged husband Eric Johnson. The pair announced in January that they had split after 10 years of marriage and three children together: Maxwelll, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6.
