Starting this week Facebook and Instagram will publicly roll out the option to hide Likes on posts. Testing of this features started back in 2019, to focus on depressurizing the experience on users.
The social networks believed users faces anxiety and embarrassment around their posts if they didn't receive enough Likes to be considered "popular." Younger users would even take down posts that didn't receive enough Likes.
So it is all in your hands if you want to turn the Likes off or still be able to view them.
