After years of criticism for not offering healthy food options to customers, Dollar store chains are finally going to start offering fresh produce.
100 Family Dollar locations have started selling apples, oranges, onions, potatoes and other fruit and vegetables, and frozen poultry, pork and beef.
Meanwhile, Dollar General has started selling fresh produce at more than 1,300 of its 17,000 locations. The chain told CNN it expects to add produce departments to an additional 1,000 stores later this year.
