Will Smith is dropping his memoir on November 9th and he's really opening up about his relationship with his dad. The memoir will even share he once contemplated killing his father to avenge his mother.
Smith goes into detail very early on the complicated relationship with his father saying "My father was violent, but he was also at every game, play and recital. He was an alcoholic, but he was sober at every premiere of every one of my movies. He listened to every record. He visited every studio. The same intense perfectionism that terrorized his family put food on the table every night of my life."
The book continues to explain how Smith saw his father once punch his mother so hard she spit out blood, and because he didn't stand up to his dad then, Smith told himself oneway he was avenge his mother and not be a coward.
Years later when Smith was taking care of his dad, who at the time was fighting cancer he had a brief moment at the top of the stairs where he found himself thinking, "I could shove him down, and easily get away with it. As the decades of pain, anger and resentment coursed then receded, I shook my head and proceeded to wheel Daddio to the bathroom."
The book sounds like Will is getting really vulnerable with us.
