This is the FIRST surgery of its kind, where a genetically modified pig heart was placed into a 57-year-old man from Maryland.
The man had terminal heart disease and "the only currently available option" was the pig heart, because of his ineligibility for a conventional heart transplant or an artificial heart pump.
David Bennett, who received the pig heart said before surgery, "it was either die or do this transplant. I want to live. I know it's a shot in the dark, but it's my last choice."
