San Diego Library is working on a new program that would eliminate overdue collection fees and fines for kids across the city. And right now theres almost 3,000 kids who owe the library money because of missing or lost items, which means they lose access to the library with the owed fees. SO with this, all current debt will be wiped out. And going forward kids will still lose access if the don’t return an item, however the debt won’t be turned over to collections. Instead library staff will work to reach out to the family and either get the item back or find another way to bring their account back to good standings.
